[8:10am CT 01.11.2018] Passport Authorizations processed the backlog late yesterday evening and is now processing normally.
[4:30pm CT] Our Technical team estimates that we should be processing normally in 3-4 hours. Sorry for the inconvenience.
[10:14am CT] Our Technical team continues to work towards a resolution for the processing delays with Authorizations. We apologize for the inconvenience.
[09:05am CT] Passport Authorizations has a backlog of accounts that may cause users to experience a delay in receiving responses. There is currently no estimated time of resolution.

2018 Pre-Authorization Changes
Effective Jan 1, 2018, BCBSIL is increasing the number of outpatient services requiring preauthorization. While preauthorization is not a new BCBSIL concept, it typically has not been required for most outpatient benefit categories in previous years.
This expanded utilization management initiative applies to all networks. However, the preauthorization contact entity will vary based on the type of policy and the services being rendered. To avoid claim denials, verifying patient eligibility and benefits is critical in order to confirm where/how preauthorization requests should be submitted.
